Summertime is a wrap, and school is upon us once again. It may have you thinking of a better home office space set up.

Covid has taught us many things, one of which is we all need to have a work space that isn’t our dining room table and a place to call our own. Consider using small nooks in your home for that perfect office space.

#1 Sofa table

A very simple way if space is tight is to use a sofa table behind your couch for office space. An added bonus is if the console table has a shelf or some doors, so you can tuck away your laptop or office accessories. You can also put a console table by a window or along a wall utilizing the length of the table to spread out papers and have room for your computer or laptop and a coffee cup.

#2 Create a cubby

This can be anywhere you have a bit of wall space that you can put up shelves to create an office that is out of the way. You can install multiple shelves to provide storage for office accessories or install a flip-down shelf that you can use for a laptop and lower when you’re finished using it and have it out of the way. Keeping an occasional chair or stool nearby that can double as a desk chair is a great way to economize.

#3 Hall table

A hall table or writing desk can make a nice small desk or laptop table. They are usually narrow and small enough to be placed in a passageway near a doorway or entrance to another room. They don’t often take up too much space and can provide extra storage too.

#4 Formal living room or dining room

So many homeowners have embraced open concept design and eat-in kitchens. If you have a formal living room or dining room, consider converting one of them to a home office and incorporate book shelves for storage.

Use a guest room or hall closet as an option. Painting the space in a light, bright colour will add to the overall feel and look.

Using the stairwell space is a great use of cubic space and provides an out-of-the-way home office. Putting up shelves to take advantage of all the vertical space for storage is ideal. Using a stool that can be pushed under the desk area keeps the space tidy and the passageway unobstructed when not in use.
