Since our founding almost 100 years ago, Obeetee has advocated for social and environmental change in the Indian rug industry. We
were the first in our market to achieve the SA 8000 Standard, the leading social certification for factories and organizations across the globe.
Our systems for the prevention of child labor have been lauded by the International Labor Organization and other human rights groups,
and we were the first in our industry to install a water effluent treatment plant and energy conservation systems. Alongside our programs
for children’s education and women’s economic advancement, our work is focused on improving quality of life for workers, their families and
our customers. We also focus on environmentally concious efforts:
WATER TREATMENT
For over 30 years, Obeetee has prevented hazardous wastewater from entering the environment—a persistent concern in India’s manufacturing
industry. In 2007, we were the first to install an energy-efficient water effluent treatment plant in Uttar Pradesh. Unlike conventional wastewater
treatment, which relies primarily on chemicals, Obeetee’s plant uses temperature controls, microorganisms, and physio-chemical processes to
safely and effectively treat waste.
ENERGY CONSERVATION
Using a combination of high-tech steam valves, geothermal wool insulation and roof fans, Obeetee has reduced steam consumption by 10%,
lowered heat load by 4 degrees Celsius and lowered cooling costs by 75%.
WASTE REDUCTION
Recently, we installed a compost compacter and upgraded our digital technology to reduce waste and energy use. With digital color-matching
and infrared carpet drying, Obeetee is able to stabilize production during drastic weather events, such as heavy rains.
